A hangover drip is an IV infusion of saline and vitamins that people choose to rehydrate after a late night. Our hangover drip in South Africa is The Babelas Beater (babelas is the local word for a hangover). It costs R1,250 and takes about 45 minutes. Come to our lounges in Sunninghill (Johannesburg), Stellenbosch or Queenstown, or stay where you are: a registered nurse brings the drip to your home, hotel room or guest house anywhere we cover in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Most clients choose the 1000ml saline bag, included at no extra cost.
What is in it. The Babelas Beater combines saline with glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin B12, thiamine (B1), a B complex and the Myers cocktail (B vitamins, magnesium and calcium). The fluid matters: the NIAAA explains that alcohol suppresses vasopressin, a hormone that helps your kidneys hold on to water, and the mild dehydration that follows likely adds to thirst, tiredness and headache. Thiamine is needed to turn carbohydrates into energy, and regular heavy drinking reduces how well it is absorbed. Vitamin C and glutathione add antioxidant support.
Who chooses it. The Babelas Beater is popular the morning after weddings, year-end functions, bachelor and bachelorette weekends and big sporting events, often booked for a group at a house or hotel. We are honest about the evidence: the NIAAA says there is no cure for a hangover other than time, and a 2022 review of 21 trials found only very low quality evidence for any hangover remedy. IV drips for hangovers have not been proven in good trials. The drip is a way to rehydrate and top up vitamins; water, food, rest and drinking less still matter most.
How to book, in 3 simple steps
Book online. Choose your drip, a walk-in lounge (Sunninghill, Stellenbosch or Queenstown) or a mobile drip at your home, office or hotel, and a time at book.mobivive.co.za.
Medical screening. You complete a short medical questionnaire before your drip, so anything that needs extra care is picked up first.
Relax while a registered nurse gives your drip. Most drips take about 45 minutes; NAD+ is given slowly over 90 to 120 minutes.
Is the hangover drip right for me? You complete a medical screening questionnaire, which a registered nurse reviews under the protocols of our medical director, Dr Chris van Zyl. Tell us first if you are pregnant, take chronic medication, or have a heart, kidney or liver condition. If you are confused, cannot stop vomiting, have chest pain or may have taken other substances, go to a hospital emergency unit instead. Otherwise the nurse places a cannula in your arm and the drip runs for about 45 minutes, on your couch or in your hotel room.
Bag: 200ml or 1000ml saline, your choice at no extra cost

People who want to feel refreshed after a late night
A hangover drip is an IV infusion of saline with vitamins and antioxidants, given by a registered nurse to help you rehydrate after drinking. At mobivIVe it is called The Babelas Beater. It is a hydration and vitamin top-up: good evidence that IV drips cure a hangover does not exist, and time remains the main factor.
The Babelas Beater contains saline, glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin B12, thiamine (B1), a B complex and the Myers cocktail of B vitamins, magnesium and calcium. You can choose a 200ml or 1000ml bag at no extra cost, and a 1000ml bag with dextrose is R200 extra. Doses follow our medical director’s protocols.
The Babelas Beater costs R1,250 and takes about 45 minutes. For a mobile drip at your home or hotel there is a call-out fee of R400 minimum, or R150 per person when a group books together, within the first 15km. Groups after a wedding or function often share one nurse visit.
A registered nurse gives every hangover IV after a medical screening questionnaire, under Dr Chris van Zyl’s protocols. If you are pregnant, take chronic medication or have a heart, kidney or liver condition, tell us first. If you feel severely unwell, are confused or keep vomiting, go to a hospital emergency unit rather than booking a drip.
