Antioxidant IV, Nurse Given

Detox Drip
in South Africa

A detox drip is an IV infusion of antioxidants and vitamins chosen as a wellness reset, while your liver and kidneys keep doing the real work of clearing waste. Our detox drip in South Africa is The Detox Guru, priced at R1,550 and taking about 45 minutes. Walk into our lounges in Sunninghill (Johannesburg), Stellenbosch or Queenstown, or book a mobile drip. In Cape Town a nurse comes to you from Camps Bay and Sea Point to Durbanville, Table View and Somerset West, and we also cover Johannesburg. Choose a 200ml or 1000ml saline bag at no extra cost, and ask the nurse about adding extra vitamins on the day.

What is in it. The Detox Guru combines alpha lipoic acid, glutathione, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), vitamin C, vitamin B12, a B complex and the Myers cocktail (B vitamins, magnesium and calcium). Glutathione is usually the most abundant small thiol in animal cells and reacts directly with reactive oxygen species. NAC supplies the cysteine your body needs to build its own glutathione. Alpha lipoic acid is a direct antioxidant and a cofactor for mitochondrial enzymes involved in energy production. Vitamin C adds further antioxidant support, and the B vitamins help turn food into energy.

Who chooses it. The Detox Guru is popular after the festive season, a run of late nights, long-haul travel or a demanding stretch at work, and with people starting a fresh routine of better food, water and sleep. We do not claim it flushes toxins: that job belongs to your liver and kidneys. The Linus Pauling Institute also notes that any rise in antioxidant activity from lipoic acid is likely to be short-lived, and research on antioxidant drips in healthy people is limited. Think of it as a vitamin and antioxidant top-up, not a cleanse.

How to book, in 3 simple steps

  1. Book online. Choose your drip, a walk-in lounge (Sunninghill, Stellenbosch or Queenstown) or a mobile drip at your home, office or hotel, and a time at book.mobivive.co.za.
  2. Medical screening. You complete a short medical questionnaire before your drip, so anything that needs extra care is picked up first.
  3. Relax while a registered nurse gives your drip. Most drips take about 45 minutes; NAD+ is given slowly over 90 to 120 minutes.

Is the detox drip right for me? Every drip starts with a medical screening questionnaire, checked by a registered nurse under the protocols of our medical director, Dr Chris van Zyl. Please tell us first if you are pregnant, take chronic medication, or have a heart, kidney or liver condition, because these change what is suitable for you. The nurse inserts a small cannula in your arm and the drip runs for about 45 minutes. Allow around an hour in total, and drink water as usual afterwards.
