For Runners, Cyclists & Gym-Goers

IV Drips for Athletes
in South Africa

Many recreational runners, cyclists and gym-goers book an IV drip around a big event, and if you compete under anti-doping rules you need to know one rule first: the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List prohibits IV infusions or injections of more than 100ml in total per 12 hours, at all times, unless received in hospital treatment, surgery or a clinical investigation. Our drips use a 200ml or 1000ml saline bag, so if you can be tested under the WADA Code (for example in a race with doping control, or as a registered or licensed athlete), do not book a drip without a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption from your sporting body.

For recreational athletes. If you are not subject to anti-doping testing, our most booked drip for training blocks and events is The V8, High Performance & Endurance (R1,700): glutathione, vitamin C, the Myers cocktail, L-carnitine, glutamine, vitamin B12 and a B complex. The Beast (R1,500) and The Kick-Start (R1,350) are lighter options, and Dr John Myers (R1,050) is the classic Myers cocktail. Every drip is given by a registered nurse after a medical screening questionnaire, under the protocols of our medical director, Dr Chris van Zyl.

Hydration first. On race day, drinking to thirst and following your event’s medical team is the standard advice; an IV drip is not a substitute, and for anyone who collapses or feels unwell at an event the race medical tent is the right place. How to book, in 3 simple steps

  1. Book online. Choose your drip, a walk-in lounge (Sunninghill, Stellenbosch or Queenstown) or a mobile drip at your home, office or hotel, and a time at book.mobivive.co.za.
  2. Medical screening. You complete a short medical questionnaire before your drip, so anything that needs extra care is picked up first.
  3. Relax while a registered nurse gives your drip. Most drips take about 45 minutes; NAD+ is given slowly over 90 to 120 minutes.

If you have a heart, kidney or liver condition, are pregnant or take chronic medication, tell us before your drip.
